Paul Stamets, Fungi Perfecti, Bio-remediation, et. al.

Here's an article by Jay Babcock

describing the work that Paul Stamets is doing here in Mendocino, using fungal bioremidation practices to clean up otherwise intractable toxic wastes. Mr. Stamets is a leading light in the field of Mycology in the broadest sense and has proposed some compelling hypotheses regarding the way fungi may function as a kind of "neural network" for the larger web of life around them.

He is well regarded in the Emerald Empire, and his kudos is due here as a contributor to the overall well-being of the community. Moreover, there is a long history and tradition of harvesting wild mushrooms for food and medicine for thousands of years that continues to this day. A dwindling tradition, but still a living one.

Professor Muhammad Yunus, Grameen Bank, Dhaka, Bangladesh

Wikipedia Article

This man is BRILLIANT!

" When he was a child Barack watched his parent committed to freeing the world from poverty..

The Nobel Yunus: “Obama is a son of microcredit”

The “banker to the poor” tells of the same engagement made by the Us president’s mother “I don’t know whether Obama will be able to live up to great expectations. But I know that Obama has already won the most important challenge”.Which is?« He has managed to create a new sense of trust that things can change: the world can be changed». When Muhammad Yunus says this, it carries a lot of weight considering that for him trust is the mainstay of “his” microcredit. The Bangladesh economist and Nobel peace prize winner dubbed the “banker to the poor” Yunus knows very well how this belief in change can spark revolutions and free up unexpected resources and potential."

....... Visualizing local resources that can replace those imported from outside the community and * Implementing this transition towards a localized economy. At foremost issue is the coming decline of petroleum resources and the impact it will have on all of us. The goal is to find creative methods to sustain and empower the local community while moving away from global (imported) resources -- in essence, to 'localize' our community. Mission The mission of Willits Economic LocaLization (WELL) is to foster the creation of a sustainable, local economy based on the principles of sufficiency, responsibility, and life promoting actions. WELL is made up of a network of citizens and community organizations that meet regularly to create a common vision, foster education, plan work, and carry out projects. Why 'Economic Localization?'
