Land, Air and Water

There are many ongoing issues here related directly and indirectly to the quality and quantity of our most valuable resources; the Land we live on, the Air we breathe and the Water we drink. It is the policy of Emerald Empire Adventures to provide science-based information regarding the topics as well as a forum for discussion.

This page is our front door to discussions, information and consideration of these and other issues of immediate concerns to residents and vistors alike. Addached as comments below are a number of recently published articles touching on various aspects of these issues.

big trees Uppermost on our mind is the proposed harvesting of second growth and old growth redwood in the headwaters of the Noyo River. We are deeply concerned about the potential economic, environmental and quality of life costs to the majority of people who live here far outweigh whatever economic benifits may accrue.
rafting As result of the ongoing dry conditions in northern California, water availablity, allocations between stake holders and long term planning to cope with what is likely to be a long term issue are issues in the forefront of many discussions here. For Emerald Empire Adventuires in particular and recreational tourism in general, redused streamflows mean fewer days of whitewater rafting, and fewer of the dollars those days could bring to rural comminities. Reduced flows also have devastating consequences for fish, birds and the whole ecosystem, the very assets that bring people here to begin with.
Russian River near Hopland Given our wealth of wind, solar and wave energy resources and the thriving culture of green, sustainable and alternative lifestyle communities, the Emerald Empire of northern california is a natural incubator and innovation center in these fields.
