NCRA RoW Segment 3

Segment 3 refers to the section of Right-of-Way between School Road crossing at Redwood Valley at the south to Laughlin Road Crossing at the north. All commentary herein is based solely on visual inspection by an informed lay-person and are to be understood as such. “Track condition” or TC# are descriptive labels provided here for narrative purposes. These categories were created ad-hoc to describe conditions specific to the surveyed track and are not intended to refer to or be based on any other standard. As such, these “track condition categories ” are used below as follows;
TC1; Generally good condition, with only minimal upgrades and maintenance required to bring up to standards.
TC2; Paved-over or gravel crossings requiring case by case solutions but representing overall, a significant cost item.
TC3; Moderately degraded sections with any combination of eroded ballast, deteriorated ties, loose spikes and/or significant overgrowth by grasses or the like.
TC4; Paved or gravelled crossings requiring varying degrees of refurbishing.
TC5: Significant overgrowth by brush and small trees requiring urgent action to prevent significant near term degradation.

Laughlin Rd. crossing, view south

Picture 1 of 78

At Laughlin Rd. almost up against the Laughlin Range, the long flat valley bottom begins. Along the rail its not more than 1% slope all the way to Ukiah. This northerly portion, all the way to the Hwy 20E/Russian River bridges is very rural with bucolic views of rolling vineyards, thick greenery and shady glens.
